I'll agree with Jim if the hood looks misaligned. However, if hood
alignment looks OK, I would just lube the catch with some lithium grease,
and if it is still stiff, then mark the current alignment of the latch assy
to the hood, loosen the bolts that hold the latch to the hood, close it only
to the safety catch, then carefully open it and tighten the bolts back
without moving the latch. See how much it moved.
Also, the big spring doohicky on the hood side of the latch can be adjusted
to reduce the pressure on the latch. There is a big jam nut that must be
loosened, then turn the screw in the center of the spring CCW to reduce
tension. Play around with these settings until you are happy. Be careful
closing the hood fully until you are reasonably certain the settings are
good at the safety catch. Don't slam it or push hard to close it. If it
doesn't close easily, it's not adjusted right yet. If you force it closed,
you might not get it back open or your cable might break.
I went thru this when installing an aftermarket cowl hood. Took a while to
get it adjusted. HTH
