Re: [Syty] Fwd: Typhoon ProblemsWhat about "THIEF..."? Who says "THIEFS"?? What about "HALF..."? Naturally, I could go on....

P.S. I give diatribe lessons on the cheap, but the homework would probably kill ya!

It's a 'disease' Dennis.
We've done the same thing with all the words we've taken from Latin: hippopotamus, locus, focus, radius, etc. Who says hippoptami, loci, foci or radii anymore?
And most amazingly, the plural of alumnus is alumni, but in this case us lazy Americans have given up the singular and use the plural to describe both the many and the one.
(I could go into a Olivarian diatribe on this subject but I could never do you justice!)
Happy Thanksgiving Dennis,
Jeff

p.s. OK; just one more: Campus. No, I'm not railing about the plural. This word was coined to describe the grounds and facilities of a college or university but is now used to give the illusion of respectability to virtually anything. I shudder to think that it won't be long before I can find my next Sy or Ty at the "Buy here; pay here" campus.
